UCIDC Named PEDA Small Economic Development agency of the Year for 2006

At the recent Pennsylvania Economic Development Association (PEDA) 2007 Spring Conference, PEDA President J. Patrick Killian presented the Small Economic Development Agency of the Year award to the Union County Industrial Development Corporation.
Stephen Hall, President of the UCIDC, accepted the award on behalf of the organization. The award is presented to an organization with a budget under $500 thousand.
In 2006 the Union County Industrial Development Corporation was recognized for the development of the Great Stream Commons property and for securing a commitment from Target Corporation to build a 1.6 million square foot warehouse and distribution center which will create 500 full time jobs.
Target Corporation
Target signed their sales agreement in August of 2006 to build a 1,600,000 square foot Warehouse Distribution Center at Great Stream Commons Business Park. Construction is to begin July 1, 2007 and occupancy is scheduled for February, 2009. Five hundred jobs have been committed to at this site. Parking is being constructed for 700 cars and 900 trucks.

Pennsylvania House Site
This 40 acre site located in East Buffalo Township in
Union County was a manufacturer of quality wood furniture. Operation of this
facility closed in December, 2004 furloughing 400 employees. It was
purchased in September, 2005 by Meridian Development Partners, LLC located
in New York City. They specialize in taking abandoned facilities in
sensitive settings and restoring them into multi-use sites. Uses include:
retail, commercial, entertainment, recreation, office and various others.
Plans and commitments are on-going.
