Museums
The history of the area remains of great importance in the
Central Susquehanna River Valley. Unique museums and exhibits
located throughout the region both educate and fascinate
visitors. The
Slifer House Museum and the
Packwood House Museum are located in Lewisburg and reveal
the charm and challenges of early life in the region. Filled
with treasures and collections, these museums quickly transport
the visitor to days gone by. See Victorian heirlooms, paintings,
and furniture and appreciate the impact of the contributions of
our ancestors.
The Mifflinburg Buggy Museum offers a unique glimpse into the history of the area. Before the dawn of the automobile, The Heiss Coachworks and buggy factory was a successful carriage factory in Mifflinburg until the 1920's. The Heiss Coachworks later reopened as the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum and feature an authentically preserved buggy factory, repository, and reconstructed carriage house.
Reptiland, one of the area's most interesting and educational destinations, is a specialized zoo that introduces visitors to an amazing variety of creatures from alligators to snakes to gentle tortoises, curious lizards and colorful frogs. Reptiland is located in Allenwood on US Route 15 between Williamsport and Lewisburg. The average visit requires about 90 minutes. The exhibits are self-guided and there's no limit to the length of a visit.
