Fine Arts

The region is rich in historical and cultural merit. Cultural events abound and showcase accomplished professional and amateur talent. The Williamsport Symphony Orchestra and the Bucknell Symphony provide fine "music to the ears" and host several performances throughout the year to satisfy a desire for classical music.

The Williamsport Community Arts Center and the Weis Center for Performing Arts at Bucknell University offer diverse events for the arts lover. From George Carlin to the Vienna Boys Choir, professional to amateur, the performances in the Central Susquehanna River valley are sure to please.

Bucknell University also offers public access to its Art Gallery, Hilltop Film Series, and Stadler Center for Poetry

Museums

Slifer HouseThe history of the area remains of great importance in the Central Susquehanna River Valley. Unique museums and exhibits located throughout the region both educate and fascinate visitors. The Slifer House Museum and the Packwood House Museum are located in Lewisburg and reveal the charm and challenges of early life in the region. Filled with treasures and collections, these museums quickly transport the visitor to days gone by. See Victorian heirlooms, paintings, and furniture and appreciate the impact of the contributions of our ancestors.

The Mifflinburg Buggy Museum offers a unique glimpse into the history of the area. Before the dawn of the automobile, The Heiss Coachworks and buggy factory was a successful carriage factory in Mifflinburg until the 1920's. The Heiss Coachworks later reopened as the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum and feature an authentically preserved buggy factory, repository, and reconstructed carriage house.

 

 Reptiland, one of the area's most interesting and educational destinations, is a specialized zoo that introduces visitors to an amazing variety of creatures from alligators to snakes to gentle tortoises, curious lizards and colorful frogs. Reptiland is  located in Allenwood on US Route 15 between Williamsport and Lewisburg. The average visit requires about 90 minutes. The exhibits are self-guided and there's no limit to the length of a visit.
